Europe
The trip takes us to England, Spain, Switzerland (briefly), France (briefly) and Italy, with a quick look around Doha.
Locations
England
London
Our European Adventure begins in England! You hear a lot of negative stuff about England, but the absolute fact is that is a stunningly beautiful country full of history, amazing architecture and friendly people. It's easy to get around on public transport, and the road network is busy but very effective.. We started with a couple of days in London, arguably the most interesting city in the world!
Constable Country
Home of famed artist John Constable! The site is absolutely beautiful, with Johns Cottage Home nested on the banks of a stream. There is a concession to tourists, with a cafe, but it fits in OK.
Holland On Sea
Holland On Sea - We have relatives here! When we first visited in 1999 it was a beautiful place, but the immigrant invasion has destroyed it (just like most of the UK). Very sad.
Stratford-Upon-Avon
The birthplace and burial place of William Shakespeare, Stratford has a long and interesting history. We really enjoyed walking around exploring.
Tewkesbury Abbey
We stopped off to visit the renowned Tewkesbury Abbey, which was simply georgeous.
Avebury
Avebury is a Neolithic henge monument containing three stone circles, around the village of Avebury in Wiltshire, in south-west England. One of the best-known prehistoric sites in Britain, it contains the largest megalithic stone circle in the world. It is both a tourist attraction and a place of religious importance to contemporary pagans.
Bath
Bath is in beautiful Somerset, and famous for it's amazingly preserved Roman Baths. There is a lot to see here though, dont stop with the baths!
Lyme Regis
Reknowned as a source of fossils in the cliffs and on the beaches. The harbour has been used as a set for numerous movies and TV shows. Very quaint!
Bournemouth
Known for its seven-mile stretch of golden sand, Bournemouth is an extremely popular destination for british holidays.
Brighton
Possibly the ultimate British seaside resort, Brighton is a popular destination for Brits on holiday!
Spain
Sevilla
Our first tour in Spain took us across the country by high speed train to the stunningly beautiful Sevilla, where we thoroughly enjoyed an awesome Game of Thrones Tour!
Avila
Our second stop was via a coach tour, where we first stopped at Avila. One of the towns' highlights is the preserved thumb of Saint Teresa - Honest! There was also an amazing Roman Aquaduct which has stood for over 2000 years.
Segovia
The second part of our Tour was to Segovia, City walls and a very cool Castle!
Switzerland
Basel
We stopped in Basel for a couple of nights en route to France and the Schlumpf Museum, but wished we had stayed longer and explored more.
France
Schlumpf Car Museum
More correctly named "Cité de l'Automobile" The Schlumpf Collection comprises over 450 Vintage, Veteran, Classic and Race Cars. The museum features the largest collection of Bugattis in the world, and presents a vivid view of the early days of motoring. Truly an experience that car fans should not miss. The history behind the museum makes a fascinating read too. One of the most memorable days of my life.
Italy
Venice
At Last! Made it to Venice! And my (very high) expectations were surpassed. What a beautiful, calm, spectacular city that just reeks of history.
Burano
We took a ferry over to the stunning island of Burano, where we ate and made merry :) The island is stunning, lots of colour, history and character!
Murano
Next, we visited the island of Murano, home of world-reknowned Venetian Glass! Another beautiful Island just brimming with character and history!
Ferrari Museum
After touring the Ferrari Factory in Maronello we visited the amazing Ferrari Museum.
Enzo Ferrari Museum
Pictures from the breathtaking Enzo Ferrari Museum in Modena. This is the most visually stunning Museum I've ever seen - the cars appear to float in the air!
Florence
A train trip from Modena to spend a day in beautiful historic Florence. Fantastic place, lots to see and do here. Great Gelati!
Rimini
We drove from Modena down the Adriatic Coast, and stopped off to investigate popular sea-side town Rimini, and for brunch.
Positano
Next stop was Positano, on the Amalfi Coast, where we had rented a Villa for a week. If you like steps, Positano is the place to be! Fitness levels soared! Stunningly beautiful, great food, has to be done at least once.
Pompeii
A day trip out of Positano allowed us to explore the amazing Pompeii. You could spend a few days here, easily. Absolutely fascinating. If I closed my eyes it was easy to imagine bustling streets full of Romans, slaves and horses going about their day-to-day business.
Vesuvius
The second part of our trip had us climbing Mount Vesuvius, the cause of the fall of Pompeii. Vesuvius is still smouldering away, and were told that when the next eruption occurs, studies show it will be a big one. Hopefully I'll be a long way away from that.
Caserta
We were told about a town called Caserta, where there is a castle which had been locked up for years, but recently opened to the public. WOW! The day we were there they declared a weather alert when we were what felt like MILES out into the gardens, so we never made it to the end, and had to rush back.
The Vatican
A long drive into Rome, drop the car off (what a relief THAT was!) and we were free to start exploring. We started with a tour of the Vatican. Looks like they aren't short of a few bob. Abundance of statues.
Rome
Rome was simply amazing. So much history and architecture, the people are super friendly and helpful. It was impossible not to enjoy ourselves.
The Colosseum
Our last adventure in Italy was The Colosseum, home of the Roman Gladiators and the best known symbol of the Roman Empire.
