Thailand 2007

In 2007 we travelled to Thailand - our first real visit into Asia. And were amazed!

Bangkok

Our Thailand adventure started in Bangkok - truly one of the world's great capitals!
We loved the food, the people, the atmosphere, the shopping..  everything!

Bang Pa-In Royal Palace

A summer residence of the King. The gardens were simply stunning.

Samut Songkhram

A unique Thai village which has a train run through the marketplace every day!

Muang Boran

Also known as Ancient Siam and the world's largest outdoor museum. most artifacts are in fact replicas, as the originals were too far deteriorated to save.

Hellfire Pass

A trip up into the mountains took us to the famous Hellfire Pass, where allied troops were worked as slaves by the Japanese to build a railway pass. Sobering.

I had a wonderful uncle who was kept a prisoner here, so it had a personal meaning and a deep effect on me.

River Kwai

Another artefact of slave labour, and the subject of a very famous film. Shame about the tourist train over the bridge that you have to dodge!

Tiger Temple

Another famous tourist attraction, and an amazing opportunity to interact with these rare and beautiful creatures.
The Temple was run by Monks, and was the subject of some controversy some years after we visited, and subequently closed.
The Tigers certainly seemed to be well treated as far as we could see.

Butterfly Garden

Pretty

Chiang Mai

The previous capital of Thailand, Chiang Mai offered an insight into a previous age. Very interesting.

Maesa Elephant Camp

An opportunity to see these awesome creatures at work and play was not to be missed. Brilliant!

Doi Suthep Temple

This temple atop a mountain offered a break from the heat, and a brilliant cultural experience.
